Recent Floods in Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia experienced unusually heavy rainfall in early 2024, which led to flash flooding in several regions. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the country's state-run news agency, between January 1 and January 29, 2024, some parts of the country received more than 200 millimeters of rain. This is about double the average annual rainfall. The final number of deaths and damages caused by the rains and floods is still unknown, but according to the SPA, 12 people were killed and 271 people were rescued. The floods also caused damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure. The Saudi Arabian government has launched relief operations in the affected areas. Civil defense officials have urged people to stay away from flooded areas and follow the instructions of the authorities.
